Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor reportedly in the works for UFC 229 in October:

Conor McGregor is most certainly not out of the woods yet in terms of legal proceedings, but his hiatus in active mixed-martial arts competition may be coming to an end. According to MMA Team Dagestan, the same source who broke news of Fabrício Werdum's removal from a meeting with Oleksiy Oliynyk at UFC Moscow, and also Alexander Volkov's involvement at UFC 226 in the event of a Stipe Miocic or Daniel Cormier injury, have reported that a Lightweight title clash at UFC 229 between champ Khabib and former gold holder Conor McGregor is in the works.

One time Lightweight and Featherweight champion McGregor was back in New York City on Thursday attending a court hearing relating to his involvement at a bus attack in the Barclays Centre back at UFC 223, only to have a new hearing date set. McGregor and his team are understood to be trashing out a negotiation plea ahead of his new July 26th date, as he faces three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

Promotion president Dana White was eager to meet with 'The Notorious' one at UFC Liverpool, to no avail and also in the run up to UFC 225, again failing to materialise. White subsequently confirmed how he and Crumlin born McGregor were scheduled to finally get together this Monday, with a plan to discuss his future in the promotion.

While no legal disciplinary proceedings have been dealt to McGregor as of yet, the UFC have reiterated how they plan on dealing with Conor internally after his court verdict, but rumours suggest an October return for Conor is a distinct possibility.

Despite the fall out of multiple fights at UFC 223, as a result of McGregor's actions, Khabib Nurmagomedov remained in the main event spot and picked up a unanimous decision win over late notice replacement Al Iaquinta, after original opponent Tony Ferguson suffered a major knee injury, Featherweight king Max Holloway's weight cut was called off and after the promotion failed to find success in negotiations between Anthony Pettis and Paul Felder.

UFC 229 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on October the 6th, and if the promotion can manage to book a bad blood meeting between Khabib and Conor, it will be sure to push the needle after a poor 2018 numbers wise.
