Georges St-Pierre vs. Nate Diaz targetted for UFC 227:

Arguably, one of the most surprising match ups in recent octagon memory, is a real possibility as former Middleweight and Welterweight king Georges 'Rush' St-Pierre is in line for a bizarre Lightweight bow against Stockton striker Nate Diaz.

Canadian fan favorite St-Pierre returned in blistering form back at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden, snatching the 185lbs title, then owned by Michael Bisping, scoring a knockdown before taking 'The Count{s}' back and choking him out with a rear-naked choke. On the other hand, Cesar Gracie product Nate Diaz has been inactive since his UFC 202 majority decision defeat to fierce foe Conor McGregor. Rumblings as of recent have suggested that Nate was finally ready to return to the octagon, but a clash with older brother Nick's former opponent St-Pierre is a legitimate shock, especially with the rumored meeting at 155lbs, a weight 'Rush' has yet to feature at.

Georges was forced to relinquish the Middleweight crown to then Interim champion Robert Whittaker as he faced a battle with colitis and faced a considerable time period on the sidelines. Whittaker has subsequently been paired with Yoel Romero who starched Luke Rockhold in Perth to earn a rematch with 'The Reaper' at UFC 225. A return for GSP was in the pipeline, possibly against Conor McGregor in a Welterweight Superfight, but McGregor's antics in Brooklyn last month firmly put the kibosh on any potential match for now.

Similarly, BJJ player Diaz was all set for a blockbuster UFC 227 slot after his lengthy hiatus, with the majority expecting Kevin Lee, Dustin Poirier or even Eddie Alvarez to welcome Cali's Diaz back to the octagon. The GSP match up is a huge surprise to say the least.

UFC 227 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on the 4th of August, with a huge Bantamweight title rematch between once training partners turned bitter rivals T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt serving as the headliner. A Middleweight clash between the explosive Derek Brunson and up start Antonio Carlos Junior.
