Max Holloway medically cleared; will meet Brian Ortega at UFC 231 in Toronto:

After being pulled from his original UFC 226 Featherweight title defence against Brian Ortega due to "concussion like symptoms", Hawaii favourite Max 'Blessed' Holloway has been medically cleared to return to active competition, and will do so in December at UFC 231 against undefeated challenger Ortega in the event headliner.

Looking incredibly shaky during the public workouts at UFC 226, Holloway was medically examined with doctors confirming that the undisputed champ would be forced to sit out from his co-main event slot. A win over Ortega would extend Max's undefeated streak to an incredible thirteen straight fights, but the meeting was subsequently scuppered. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt 'T-City' Ortega was offered a short notice Interim Featherweight title clash with the highly dangerous Jeremy Stephens, but elected to reject the bout contract, a calculated move as he has now been given a chance to face Holloway before the year's end.

Californian native Brian Ortega's run to a UFC Featherweight title shot has been nothing short of phenomenal. The undefeated 27 year-old cemented his status as a upper echelon challenger at 145bs in his most recent Octagon walk, stopping Frankie Edgar in the opening round with a beautiful uppercut, becoming the premier fighter to stop the Tom's River fan favourite in the process. Holding an unblemished professional record of 14-0, Ortega's well rounded striking and elite level Rener Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu base has been a so far unbreakable puzzle in the UFC to date. Before his win over Edgar, Ortega swiped two slick guillotine victories over Cub Swanson and fellow talented grappler Renato Moicano.

Since his 2013 unanimous decision defeat to Conor McGregor, Waianae native Max Holloway has developed and evolved into one of the most talented mixed-martial artists in the world. Holloway secured his initial taste of UFC gold in the form of the Interim 145lbs championship against Anthony Pettis, becoming the first man to stop 'Showtime' back at their UFC 206 clash. Unifying the championship against the legendary José Aldo in the Brazilian's backyard, Max finished the consensus greatest Featherweight of all time once again at UFC 218, in similar third round fashion.
