Amanda Nunes to defend Bantamweight crown against Raquel Pennington at UFC 224:

A homecoming for the 135lbs champ.
Brazil's Amanda Nunes will finally have her homecoming title fight this summer at UFC 224, as she faces emerging Bantamweight elite 'Rocky' Raquel Pennington as she eyes the third consecutive defence of her 135lbs title. Nunes was widely expected to challenge Cris Cyborg for the Featherweight title until her compatriot stepped in to defend against Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222, due to the withdrawal of Max Holloway in the original headliner. The match up between Nunes and Pennington was slated for late last year until a leg injury sustained during a hunting trip forced Raquel into a spell on the sidelines.

An aggressive and accurate striker, Nunes holds a case for the greatest female mixed-martial artist of all time accolade. With wins against pioneers Miesha Tate, first by rear-naked choke and a 48 second knockout and utter demolition of now WWE star and former division queen Ronda Rousey the most impressive names on her experienced professional record. Picking up her second decision victory over Flyweight up rise Valentina Shevchenko in her most recent octagon walk, Nunes was as mentioned early, keen on a title tilt at Featherweight in a possible three title fight card at UFC 226. 'The Lioness', who currently plys her trade out of American Top Team, holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, evident from her submission title clinching win against Tate back at UFC 200, but her explosive hands are her most deadliest weapons.

In an incredible story, the former Ultimate Fighter contest was matched up against her season coach Miesha Tate at UFC 205, and ultimately retired 'Cupcake' after a one sided decision victory. Subsequently adding to her three fight win streak which included notable names like former title challengers, Brazilian pair Bethe Correia and Jéssica Andrade. An accomplished wrestler with a solid grappling base, 'Rocky' Raquel still faces a tough task to snap a win streak spanning almost four years, with 'Alpha' Cat Zingano the last competitor to overthrow Nunes. With a 9-5 record, Pennington seems to match up quite badly with out and out strikers, for instance former bantamweight title holder Holly Holm managed a decision win, the aforementioned Zingano and in their premier meeting, Jéssica Andrade all picked up victories over 'Rocky' Raquel.
