Max Holloway out of UFC 222 Featherweight title defence against Frankie Edgar:

Current UFC Featherweight champion Max 'Blessed' Holloway has been forced to withdraw from his title headliner against Frankie Edgar due to a leg injury. The Hawaii brawler was scheduled to face off with long time 145lbs challenger and former Lightweight king Frankie 'The Answer' Edgar in the event's headliner on March the 3rd. This is the second occasion the match up between Holloway and Edgar has been scuppered, with an initial orbital injury to Edgar before their UFC 218 pairing forcing the rescheduling.

Holloway, who won the UFC Fighter Of The Year accolade for 2017, rounded off a spectacular year with a second round consecutive stoppage of the consensus best Featherweight of all time José Aldo, and looked to really cement his legacy as one of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's most dangerous strikers. With some of the slickest hands in the fight game, Waianae native Holloway has gone on nothing short of a legitimate tear since his 2013 loss to Conor McGregor, a loss he's reportedly interesting in getting back, in a future venture at the Dubliner's new home of Lightweight.

After an Interim Featherweight championship defeat to the aforementioned Aldo at UFC 200 in the initial McGregor title controversy, Edgar returned with an eye catching win over the always explosive Jeremy Stephens, before an astonishing mauling and eventual doctor's stoppage of Mexican kicking specialist Yair 'El Pantera' Rodríguez.

As of yet it is unknown if Edgar will remain on the UFC 222 card, or if the Las Vegas event will receive a new headliner.
