Neil Magny versus Gunnar Nelson added to UFC Liverpool:

Classic striker versus grappler pairing
UFC Liverpool is on a mission to showcase some of the best of the stacked Welterweight's in the division today, as two high level 170bls stalwarts meet, with Neil Magny welcoming Straight Blast Gym Ireland mainstay Gunnar 'Gunni' Nelson to the Echo Arena. Occupying the #9 rank at Welterweight, Neil Magny returned from a lightening fast arm triangle loss against Rafael Dos Anjos, to cleverly outpoint former WEC and UFC best Carlos 'The Natural Born Killer' Condit. Icelandic favourite Gunnar Nelson was stopped in controversial circumstances in his July meeting with Argentine Santiago Ponzinibbio on the otherhand, suffering a knockout defeat after a legitimate case for at least three illegal eye pokes in the lead up to the fight ending shot.

Noticeably, Magny suffers hugely against solid Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu players, coming noticeably unstuck when paired with Sérgio Moraes, Demian Maia and the previously mentioned Dos Anjos and with Nelson holding a reputation as one of the slickest grapplers at Welterweight today, this match should provide real concern for the 6 ft 3 in Magny. On the otherhand, the immense height and reach advantage possessed by magny over the majority of his opponents will force Gunnar to cautiously close the distance or pull guard when possible. A useful offensive option for America's Magny would see him employ a stiff front kick to the body to keep the Reykjavik Rezno Gracie black belt at bay.
