Alistair Overeem versus Curtis Blaydes in the works for UFC 225:

A behemoth Heavyweight clash.
A colossal Heavyweight meeting between top five contender's Alistair 'The Reem' Overeem and Juco up rise Curtis 'Razor' Blaydes is reportedly in the works for UFC 225 in Chicago, Illinois come June. Overeem, who suffered the most brutal stoppage defeat of his highly decorated and storied career to the powerful Francis Ngannou last time out is still eyeing another shot at UFC gold with a win over Blaydes, a man who has amassed an eye catching three fight win streak, most recently surviving a first round onslaught from Mark Hunt to out wrestle and outpoint 'The Super Samoan' on his way to a decision triumph.

One of the most deadliest strikers in the game past or present, Dutch favorite Alistair Overeem is yet to reach the pinnacle of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but in both Strikeforce, DREAM and in 2010's K-1 Grand Prix, he was unmatched. An elite level Muay Thai practitioner, Overeem possesses some of the most brutal knees in history, especially close in a clinch. Now 37 years of age, 'The Demolition Man' is realistically at the twilight of his legendary career, but a win over the up and coming Blaydes will surely reinstate him into rightful title contention. After his premier title shot to date against current king Stipe Miocic, Overeem scored another highlight reel knockout over the resilient Mark Hunt, before ending his trilogy bout with Fabrício Werdum with a rather controversial decision victory. Heading into his title eliminator with Cameroon native Ngannou, he was a heavy underdog, and after an uncharacteristic rush and aggressive showing similar to his early years, Overeem was left stiff on the canvas after an almost shovel hook from 'The Predator' ended his night in dramatic style.

Undoubtedly the biggest test of his impressive career to date, Chicago native Curtis Blaydes must utilise his superior and well documented wrestling background to overwhelm Overeem, and possibly earn that illustrious shot at UFC gold. Despite an early career loss to the aforementioned Francis Ngannou, Curtis' game has evolved massively since that early 2016 match, stopping Cody East, Oleksiy Oliynyk and Adam Milsteas before the latter was overturned to a 'No Contest' due to a USADA flagging after he tested positive for Marijuana. Blaydes as mentioned earlier, took the decision win back form Perth, Australia with him and has be rewarded with a three rounder against division mainstay Alistair Overeem in a homecoming of his own.

UFC 225 also features exciting Flyweight meetings between the returning Joseph Benavidez and Sergio Pettis and a potential title eliminator Strawweight clash between Brazilian bruiser Cláudia Gadelha and former division best Carla Esparza. A possible home town return for former WWE superstar CM Punk is also rumored for this card along with a main event Middleweight rematch between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero for the 185lbs championship.
