Stephen Thompson vs. Darren Till targeted for UFC Fight Night Liverpool:

Expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
A huge Welterweight meeting is on deck for the UFC's premier trip to Merseyside, as two time title chaser Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson steps into hostile territory against Liverpool's own Darren 'The Gorilla' Till in the main event slot. After the promotion's most recent card, in London, a final second stoppage for Leon Edwards warranted him, in his mind, a shot at Liverpudlian Till. After the call out, Till was less enthusiastic about the possibility, particularly due to Edwards' #13 rank at 170lbs. Thompson, an elite level kickboxer, will certainly entertain Till's striking with his own lethal background, and with his #1 rank at Welterweight up for grabs, this is most likely a title eliminator.

With an undefeated 57-0 professional kickboxing record under his belt, 'Wonderboy' is one of the most experienced and technical strikers in mixed-martial arts history. Taking time off due to a thumb injury sustained at UFC 217 in a rather comfortable win over Jorge Masvidal, Thompson not only returned to the win column for the first time in two fights, but also firmly reinserted himself into title contention. Losing an evenly contested rematch with Tyron Woodley after an even closer majority draw, Thompson seen his eye catching 7 fight win streak snapped, which included names like Rory MacDonald, Jake Ellenberger current Middleweight champ Robert Whittaker and one time Welterweight best Johny Hendricks.

After a first round stoppage over UFC gatekeeper Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, Darren Till's star took a meteoric rise as he remained not only undefeated but stretched his UFC record to 4-0-1. A massively successful kickboxer and a holder of the rank 'master' in Muay Thai, Till traveled to Brazil to continue his MMA training after a knife attack in hometown Liverpool, Till made a eye catching impact on the regional scene in South America, amassing an incredible 8-0 record in 2013 alone, stopping all of his opponents. Springing onto the Ultimate Fighting Championship scene back in 2015, Till has featured on cards in Brazil, Ireland, Holland, Sweden and Poland, rising his stock in Europe even more.
