Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg: What will go down:

Can DJ achieve UFC immortality?
The #1 pound-for-pound and record seeking Flyweight kingpin Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson returns to the octagon this weekend at UFC 216 in the co-main event slot in a long anticipated title clash with the talented Ray Borg. Originally scheduled to headline September's UFC 215, the Flyweight meeting was scrapped the day before the event after opponent Ray Borg failed to be passed to fight by UFC doctors, with 'The Tazmexican Devil' understood to have been suffering with and illness in the days leading up to the bout.

UFC 216 doesn't just see the return of DJ, but also allows arguably the greatest of all time to leapfrog Anderson Silva's record of consecutive title defences which currently stands at an astonishing ten. The UFC's first and only Flyweight crown holder tied the record in extraordinary fashion last April, submitting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Wilson Reis via a nasty armbar at the end of the third round after a dominant display throughout. Linked to a 'superfight' against former Bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw after his ESPY win, a bout between the two failed to materialise with many questioning Dillashaw's ability to make the Flyweight limit while opposing fans questioned DJ's reluctance to take a fight with Dillashaw, an absurd thought in my opinion considering Johnson's consistency and the huge risk of Dillashaw with the Kentucky native so close to UFC stardom.

Grappling sensation Ray Borg presents one of the most interesting match ups for Johnson in recent memory but similarly to Tim Elliot, the almost one denominational, yet superb style of Borg, may just see him fall short in his pursuit of UFC gold, and realistically, a major upset. Earning a shot at Johnson via his unanimous decision win over similarly gifted Jiu-Jitsu player Jussier Formiga, but when compared to someone of Johnson's stellar all round comfort where ever the fight ends up, Borg may find himself in deep water so soon into his UFC career.

As mentioned previously, Johnson's well rounded nature in terms of striking, wrestling and grappling should prove too much for the 24 year-old Borg as he breaks Anderson Silva's record. A move up to Bantamweight must be on the cards for DJ if he leaves UFC 216 with his title, with bouts alongside the likes of Dominick Cruz, Jimmie Rivera and the winner of Cody Garbrandt and T.J. Dillashaw an exciting possibility for the P4P #1.

Demetrious Johnson via knockout.
