Brian Ortega's return has been postponed due to a partial ACL tear.

One-time featherweight title challenger, Brain 'T-City' Ortega must once more halt plans for his long awaited comeback, as the Californian grappler detailed how an ACL injury three weeks before his headlining bout with Chan Sung Jung in South Korea, has forced him from the card.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and consummate submission specialist, has yet to feature in the Octagon since suffering his first professional defeat, to the hands of Max Holloway at UFC 231 in December of last year. As of yet it is unknown whether or not hometown hero, Jung, will remain on the card as the promotion scurry to find a replacement for their final event of the year.

Ortega revealed the extent of his injury in a post on his official Twitter page late last night. "I tore my ACL in training and I won't be fighting in Korea. Thankfully it was only a partial tear so I'm already rehabbing it and the plan is to be back to 100% in 2-3 months. I don't want to let the fans down, the Zombie (Chan Sung Jung), and the UFC, so I strongly considered pushing through it and fighting anyways, but according to the doctors, the risk of a full rupture in the fight was high and that would put me out for up to a year. Sorry guys, I gotta take care of this right now, but I will make it up to all of you 2020 (sic) I promise."

The main event pairing was expected to serve as a possible title-eliminator in the featherweight division, with reigning champion, the aforementioned Max Holloway attempting to lodge another title defense when he meets Alexander Volkanovski the week prior. Pohang native Jung, has yet to fight in his home country since 2008 during his stint on the regional circuit, and was attempting to continue a head of steam toward a second title challenge under the UFC banner, after scoring a first round finish of Renato Moicano in his last Octagon walk.
