Renan Barão Officially Released From His UFC Contract

Former UFC bantamweight champion, Renan 'The Baron' Barão has officially been released from his contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, after just over eight years with the organization. The 32-year-old Brazilian, has dropped five losses in a row since 2017, losing a unanimous decision to Douglas Silva de Andrade most recently.
The dangerous Muay Thai practitioner and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, signed with the promotion with an incredible 26-1 record, having spent some time with the now defunct WEC promotion. The Natal native went unbeaten in his first seven fights with the UFC, where he managed victories over Urijah Faber (x2), Michael McDonald, Brad Pickett, Scott Jorgensen and a highlight reel knockout of Eddie Wineland on his way to the interim, and then undisputed 135-pound throne.
Barão then faced then Team Alpha MMA protege, T.J. Dillashaw, where he suffered his first professional defeat in almost ten years. At the time of the shocking defeat, Barão was fast approaching the summit of the UFC's pound-for-pound list, and was recognised as of the best mixed-martial-artists in the sport's memory. The Andre Pederneiras black belt was finished in the fifth and final round, before earning his final ever championship tilt in the promotion after rebounding against Mitch Gagnon. Dillashaw would once more finish Barão in the rematch the following year, before a majorly fruitless return to featherweight.
The two stoppage defeats to the talented Dillashaw represented somewhat of a changing of the guard at bantamweight. Managing just one victory over Phillipe Nover over the next three years, Barão became somewhat of a gauge for talent for uprising bantamweight prospects in the promotion.
