Henry Cejudo Vacates The UFC Flyweight Championship

Henry 'The Messenger' Cejudo has turned his attention to bantamweight waters.

The often polarizing, Henry 'Triple C' Cejudo must now alter his moniker to 'Double C' after the Californian wrestler vacated the UFC flyweight championship late last night. News of Cejudo's decision to drop the flyweight crown was first reported by MMA Junkie writer, Mike Bohn.

Cejudo, who defeated Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson in their August, 2018 rematch, lodged one successful title defense, in January this year, via a first round knockout of T.J. Dillashaw, but has switched his attention to bantamweight waters since then. The 31-year-old became a two-weight world champion this summer, as he scored a late third round ground-and-pound win over Marlon Moraes in a vacant 135-pound championship clash, after the aforementioned Dillashaw was forced to vacate the title after testing positive for EPO.

The Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling has spent some time on the sidelines recently, as he recuperates from a shoulder injury. Cejudo has spoken on his intentions to attempt the first defense of his bantamweight championship in the opening-quarter of 2020. In his absence, the contender list at 135-pounds has lengthened significantly, with Aljamain Sterling, Petr Yan, Dominick Cruz, Marlon Moraes, and even José Aldo staking their claim for challenger status. Despite his razor-thin defeat to Moraes at UFC 245 last weekend, Aldo has campaigned for a meeting with Cejudo - a bout the Fight Ready trainee has welcomed, along with UFC President, Dana White.
