A bantamweight pairing before former division best, Holly 'The Preacher's Daughter' Holm and one-time title challenger, 'Rocky' Raquel Pennington has been re-booked for UFC 246 on January 18th. at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, after a failed pairing at UFC 243 in Australia.
The Jackson-Wink mainstay was forced from the co-main event slot against Pennington in Melbourne due to a niggling hamstring injury, and despite recent speculation linking her to a similar rescheduling with Aspen Ladd, the kickboxing talent clashes with compatriot Pennington. News of the matchup was first reported by MMA Junkie writer, Mike Bohn.
Holm who turned 38 years-old just over a month and a half ago, achieved champion status in one of the most memorable title bouts in Octagon history, as she handed then bantanweight champion, 'Rowdy' Ronda Rousey her premier professional loss, via a devastating second round knockout. Attempting to bring an end to recent poor spell of form against Pennington, Holm has dropped five defeats in her last seven walks for the organization.
In her one and only title challenger under the UFC banner, Pennington was convincingly put aside by dominant 135-pound best, Amanda 'The Lioness' Nunes on foreign soil. Snapping a two-fight skid against the rising Irene Aldana in a incredibly narrow decision, Pennington will look to add Holm to her win resume which contains another former bantamweight gold-holder, Miesha 'Cupcake' Tate. In another career highlight victory, Colorado native Pennington defeated recently relieved strawweight best, Jessica 'Bate Estaca' Andrade.
UFC 246 takes place on January 18th. from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with former two-weight world champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor snaps his almost fifteen month hiatus as he faces veteran fan-favourite Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in a welterweight pairing. A flyweight meeting between former division title hopeful Roxanne Modafferi and rising prospect Maycee Barber has been sealed for the event, while Nasrat Haqparast and Drew Dober will meet at 155-pounds. Grant Dawson also returns in January as he clashes with Chas Skelly at featherweight. Former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis returns to 155-pounds, as he meets surging Brazilian grappler Carlos Diego Ferreira. In featherweight action, Andre 'Touchy' Fili takes on Nigerian powerhouse, 'Super' Sodiq Yusuff. Submission specilaist Aleksei Oleinik takes on Maurice Greene.
