Report: Dominick Cruz vs. Casey Kenney Slated For UFC 259 on March 6th.

Former two-time UFC bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz is in line for his Octagon return on March 6th. -- as he tackles streaking division upstart, Casey Kenney at UFC 259 -- with a location or venue for the event yet to be determined by the promotion.

Last featuring at UFC 249 in May, Cruz snapped a four-year injury-ridden hiatus from the sport, drafting in on short notice to challenge the retiring bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo for the undisputed title. Slumping to a second straight defeat, the 35-year-old suffered a late second-round knockout defeat.

Winning his last three consecutively, former interim LFA flyweight and bantamweight champion, Kenney featured at UFC 254 on 'Fight Island' in October, taking home a unanimous judging win over former Cage Warriors bantamweight best, Nathaniel Wood. News of the interesting 135-pound pairing was initially reported by MMA Junkie reporters, Mike Bohn and Farah Hannoun. 

Prior to his only career knockout loss to the above mentioned, Cejudo, Alliance MMA mainstay, Cruz had dropped his bantamweight championship in a unanimous decision defeat to former titleholder, Cody Garbrandt all the way back at UFC 207 in December 2016. 

A twenty-five fight professional veteran, the San Diego veteran has scored notable career victories over the likes of Ian McCall, Brian Bowles, Joseph Benavidez (x2), Urijah Faber (x2), Demetrious Johnson, Takeya Mizugaki, and T.J. Dillashaw.

Two-time Dana White's Contender Series alum, Kenney has managed to notch a 5-1 promotional record since his transition to the UFC back in March of 2019.

In his sole organizational loss, Kenney suffered a unanimous decision defeat to fellow bantamweight up and comer, Merab Dvalishvili. In his five wins, Kenney has best former title challenger, Ray Borg, Manny Bermudez, Louis Smolka, Heili Alateng, and the aforenoted Wood.
