Frankie Edgar forced from UFC 218 title bout with Max Holloway through injury:

Edgar (left) is expected to resume full contact training within 6 weeks.

Detroit's UFC 218 card took it's most substantial blow possible, as Featherweight title challenger Frankie 'The Answer' Edgar was forced from his main event meeting with division assassin Max 'Blessed' Holloway as the Hawaii native looks for his first successful title defence. A replacement for Holloway is still yet to be determined, but it is believed the champion will still remain on the card.

Holloway seized the then undisputed crown from José Aldo at UFC 212, out striking the veteran Muay Thai expert for the majority of the contest before landing the finishing touches in the third round to unify the Featherweight titles, and extend his undefeated streak to an astonishing 11 straight victories. With his most recent setback coming in the form of a decision slaying by Lightweight kingpin Conor McGregor back in 2013, a far more experienced and honed Holloway, has stopped the likes of Cub Swanson, Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis, Andre Fili and Charles Oliviera in the aforementioned time period.

Dispatching both Jermey Stephens and Yair 'El Pantera' Rodríguez after his second defeat to former foe Aldo, the former Lightweight champ once again found himself in 145lbs title contention. With one of the most solid wrestling and boxing bases in the game past and present, 36 year-old Edgar was attempting to join the short list of UFC fighters to hold two titles in different weight classes, a group recently joined by Canada's hometown hero and Middleweight champ Georges St-Pierre. Frankie made his premier octagon walk back in 2007 against Tyson Griffin, and since that appearance in Las Vegas, has overcome some of the sports all time greats such as Gray Maynard, Sean Sherk, B.J. Penn, Urijah Faber, Cub Swanson and Chad Mendes. Frankie is undoubtedly a true pioneer of mixed martial arts.

With Edgar out, 4 fight winning streaker Cub Swanson has thrown his name into the ring to replace the Tom's River star, but is already scheduled to face Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night Fresno. Former champ Aldo has also expressed his interest in a rematch for his once held UFC gold, while another former opponent of Max, Ricardo 'Bully' Lamas believes he should be granted his second shot at the Featherweight throne.
