Will it prove fourth-time lucky for this bantamweight clash? A well overdue pairing of streaking contender, James 'The Strabanimal' Gallagher, and Cal 'Pacino' Ellenor has been rebooked for a fourth-time - with a Bellator Milan event on October 3rd. expected to play host.
Gallagher and Ellenor were originally scheduled to headline a Bellator Dublin event in September last year, with Roman Salazar forced to replace the latter on short notice after a medical check miscue. Then scheduled to headline another Bellator Dublin event in February this year, Gallagher was forced to withdraw from the main event this time, following a back injury. In the third failed matching, Gallagher and Ellenor were set to meet at a Bellator London event in March - which was subsequently shelved amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Scoring a quickfire guillotine win over the above noted, Salazar - Gallagher improved his winning steak to three fights in the process. Limited to appearances in the Bellator cage since his first-round rear-naked choke victory over Nathan Greyson in February last year on home soil, Ellenor looks to notch his second straight success.
Rebounding with two consecutive wins since his knockout loss to American Top Team staple, Ricky Bandejas - Strabane native, Gallagher secured victories over Chinzo Machida, the brother of former UFC light heavyweight best, Lyoto Machida - as well as a unanimous decision win over Jeremiah Labiano.
Former Extreme Fighting Championship mainstay, Ellenor - like rival, Gallagher is a poised Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player, with fourteen combined victories via submission between the Sunderland native and the Straight Blast Gym Ireland mainstay.
