Report: Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir Signs With BKFC

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Frank Mir has put pen to paper on a deal which will see him compete under David Feldman's, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship banner, according to sources.

Mir, 41, a renowned mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace will make the transition to bare-knuckle fighting, following a professional mixed martial arts career which dates back all the way to 2001.

The Las Vegas, Nevada native last featured at Bellator 231 in October of last year, scoring a unanimous decision rematch win over Roy 'Big Country' Nelson, to improve to 2-0 opposite his fellow UFC alum.

Mir was famously crowned the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion back in June of 2004 - securing the title with an infamous armbar victory over one-time titleholder, Tim Sylvia. Mir would go on to secure the interim division crown at UFC 92 four years after his initial reign - becoming the first to finish 'Minotauro' Nogueira with strikes, in a second-round knockout win.

Mir's move to Philidelphia based outfit, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship - draws a close to a three-fight stint with Scott Coker's Bellator MMA which began in April of 2018. His above-noted victory over Nelson marked the last of Mir's his deal with the promotion - allowing him to field offers from other promotions as he tested free agency.

The 19-13 mixed martial artist is also a colour-commentator - featuring on the commentary booths for promotions such as the now-defunct, WEC, and Russian organization, ACB, where he currently resides.
