The promotion was initially scheduling an October meeting between Chimaev and former middleweight and welterweight title chaser, Demian Maia - but following the former's stunning seventeen-second knockout win over Gerald Meerschaert earlier this month, plans for the pairing were abandoned.
The eye-catching finish for Chimaev seen him improve to 3-0 in the promotion just two months after making his first appearance under the UFC's banner. Featuring twice in a period of just ten days in July, Chimaev utilised his smothering grappling to finish both John Phillips, and promotional newcomer, Rhys 'Skeletor' McKee.
A December return for Thompson would mark his first Octagon appearance since UFC 244 in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, where he lodged a dominant counter-striking unanimous judging win over the gritty, Vicente Luque.
For Team Renegade BJJ & MMA trainee, Edwards - the Birmingham-based all-rounder met with former lightweight best, Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night San Antonio in July of last year, notching a unanimous decision triumph.
