A featherweight title clash between recently minted titleholder, Cris Cyborg, and Australian striking ace, Arlene 'Angerfist' Blencowe is slated to take main event status at Bellator 249 on October 15th. - from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Attempting the first defence of her 145-pound throne, decorated Brazilian Muay Thai ace, Cyborg looks to continue her 100% record under the Bellator banner, after a knockout win over former champion, Julia 'The Jewel' Budd at Bellator 238 in January this year.
Streaking New South Wales native, Blencowe has won her last three consecutive outings, securing her second promotional title tilt and a challenge against Cyborg, via a unanimous decision win over common-foe, Leslie Smith.
Curitiba native, Cyborg is revered as one of the greatest female mixed martial artists of all time - laying claim to gold across the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, and Invicta FC over her fifteen-year career. Over that period, more often than not involving gold of some sort, Cyborg had bested names such as Felicia Spencer, Holly Holm, Yana Kunitskaya, Tonya Evinger, Marloes Coenen (x2), Charmaine Tweet, Faith Van Duin, Gina Carano, Hitomi Akano, and Shanya Baszler of note.
In her first title challenge during her nine-fight Bellator stint, 37-year-old veteran, Blencowe unsuccessfully claimed the crown from common opponent, the above noted, Budd. In notable victories, the dangerous striker has bested the likes of Amanda Bell, Amber Leibrock, Sinead Kavanagh, Janay Harding, and like, Cyborg - overcame the previously named, Van Duin.
