Let's try this a third time. A potential light heavyweight title eliminator between one-time title challengers, Thiago 'Marreta' Santos, and Glover Teixeira is slated to headline a UFC Fight Night event on November 7th. - with a venue or location for the showcase yet to be determined by the promotion.
The two were initially scheduled to take main event honours at UFC Fight Night Vegas 10 at the beginning of this month until Teixeira tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Rebooked for a UFC Fight Island pairing on October 4th. - the pairing was shelved once more, with Santos testing positive for COVID-19 on that occasion. Third time lucky on November 7th?
Santos is set to make his first Octagon outing since dropping his first loss at light heavyweight in July of last year at UFC 239 - losing an extremely close split decision to then-champion, Jon 'Bones' Jones. The Brazilian suffered a multitude of leg and knee injuries in the headlining clash.
For Teixeira, the veteran striker has won his last four - scoring a fifth-round knockout win over Anthony 'Lionheart' Smith at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May. News of the reworked main event was first reported by ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto.
Hoping to earn his second promotional title tilt, prior to his loss to Jones - Santos had made massive waves at 205-pounds, scoring wins over Jan Błachowicz, Jimi Manuwa, and Eryk Anders.
Before his decimating victory over another former title challenger, Smith - Minas Gerais native, Teixeira scored victories over former Fight Nights Global best, Nikita Krylov, as well as submission wins over Ion Cuţelaba and Karl Roberson.
