'Wonderboy' Thompson out points Jorge Masvidal to score decision victory.

A stoppage win should see Stephen chase an alluding title. 
A pure Welterweight striking showdown signals the conclusion of the three round bouts of UFC 217 tonight, as two time title challenger Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson takes on the #4 ranked boxing specialist Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal. One man will return to winning ways tonight, with disappointing decision defeats haunting their respective records recently.

Dan Miragliotta was handed this assignment with Thompson entering the exchanges with that traditional Karate stance, while Masvidal looked quite light on his front leg early on. two quick front leg side kicks landed flush to the body for 'Wonderboy', as Jorge looked to maintain octagon control and utilise his superior boxing. A sharp right hand found it's target so quickly for Thompson, dazing Masvidal for a moment. First round definitely goes to 'Wonderboy'.

The second of three possible rounds began with a half single leg shoot from Jorge, who from the fence began to unload strikes, as Thompson circled away. Big knockdown from Stephen Thompson, creating a clever angle to sweep a right hand onto the chin of Masvidal, with the Miami native recovering well. Crisp hook from Jorge smashed clean, with Thompson remaining on his feet notably.

Important third and final round for Masvidal. Both men trading leather heading toward the closing stages of this round, Not an instant classic but nevertheless Thompson picks up an important career victory.
