Can anyone at Strawweight overthrow queen Joanna?

Attempting to equal a title defence record set by former Bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey, Polish striking phenom Joanna Jedrzejczyk faces arguably her most daunting striking opponent to date, in the form of Tae Kwon Do and Karate black belt 'Thug' Rose Namajunas. Jedrzejczyk completely decimated Brazil's Jessica Andrade in her most recent title defence, while the 25 year-old Namajunas convincingly stopped Michelle Waterson last April, landing a superb head kick, before wrapping up the bout with a slick rear naked choke.

Arguably the greatest female mixed martial artist to ever grace the octagon, Olsztyn fan favourite Joanna Jedrzejczyk has steamrolled each of her 8 UFC opponents, to stretch her undefeated record to 14-0. Taking an approach of volume over power in terms of striking, Muay Thai practitioner Joanna, has overcome Jessica Andrade, Claudia Gadelha (x2), Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Carla Esparza, Jessica Penne, Juliana Lima and Valerie Letourneau on her rise to the #7 spot in the pound for pound rankings. With damaging leg kicks, a dangerously quick straight right and a crushing left hook to the body, Jedrzejczyk has out struck each of her opponents quite significantly on her way to dominant victories and retention.

An often overlooked aspect to Rose Namajunas' normally striking heavy game, is her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, often utilised through her standup setup. Submitting, Paige VanZant, Angela Hill, Joanne Calderwood and Alex Chambers to name a few, the rear-naked choke technique is evidently a favoured technique of 'Thug' Rose. The #4 ranked Strawweight challenger could certainly pose some headaches for the dominant Joanna on the feet, but her most likely route to a success is through her grappling prowess.
