UFC Fight Night Night Norfolk Fallout: What's next for Dustin Poirier:

Dustin's rise to the top continues.
Lafayette striker Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier continued his blistering rise through the Lightweight rankings on Saturday night, as he dominated former division champion Anthony 'Showtime' Pettis for the last minute of the opening round to his third round stoppage win, slicing Pettis up throughout the second with stiff elbows before a rib injury from a body triangle forced referee Keith Peterson to step in, awarding a TKO victory for Poirier. In his post fight interview with Jon Anik, Poirier called for  the winner of Eddie Alvarez's bout with Justin Gaethje, a difficult one to deny 'The Diamond' who is unbeaten in his last 3 trips to the octagon.

Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje winner: A fight that Poirier wants is clearly a fight the UFC fans want as well. With unfinished business with former Lightweight king Eddie Alvarez stemming from their 'no contest' back at UFC 211, a rematch between the pair would certainly grant the winner a shot at UFC gold. A matchup with the undefeated Justin 'The Highlight' Gaethje would also promise fireworks with both men's impressive standup and high pressure style promising 'Fight of The Night' honours. Back at UFC 211, Poirier smashed Alvarez on the feet from the second bell, before a brave Eddie hit back and stunned 'The Diamond' but from a scramble. landed two illegal knees, forcing the contest off.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Edson Barboza loser: The winner of the Khabib and Barboza meeting will most likely face the winner of the rumoured Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson unification bout, why not match the high rising Poirier against the losing party of this match. Realistically the Sambo specialist Khabib would more than likely cause a huge amount of worry for Poirier, similarly to the way he dominated Michael Johnson back at UFC 205 on his way to a Kimura finish. Barboza would also prove a huge puzzle to solve for Dustin on the feet in my opinion, with the Muay Thai expect so explosive and dangerous.

Kevin Lee meeting: A really intriguing matchup would see Poirier challenge recent Interim Lightweight title contender Kevin 'The Motown Phenom' Lee in preferably a five round affair, with the winner earning a shot at Lightweight gold. Lee, a superb grappler and certainly no slouch on the feet would present an interesting matchup stylistically for 'The Diamond and, the back and forth between the pair would be hugely entertaining.
