UFC 217 Fallout: What's next for Joanna Jedrzejczyk?

Run it back...
On arguably one of the greatest UFC events to grace our television sets, one of the biggest upsets of the year occurred, as rising contender and striking queen 'Thug' Rose Namajunas brought a crashing end to not only the undefeated run, but also the dominant Strawweight reign of Polish phenomenon Joanna Jedrzejczyk with one swift counter left hook. The premier title fights of three on the memorable UFC 217 card, ended in quick fashion in the opening round, with 25 year-old true underdog Namajunas dropping the Muay Thai expert once in the early exchanges, before forcing the Olsztyn native to submit to ground and pound, following a sweetly landed left. So with the almost unstoppable siege to the pound-for-pound #1 spot truly derailed for the time being, what can we expect next from Poland's brash Joanna Jedrzejczyk?

Immediate title rematch: This one is simple. If any defeated champion from Saturday's UFC 217 deserves an immediate quest to reclaim their gold, look no further than Joanna. Overthrowing the best the 115lbs division has had to offer since her breakout on the Ultimate Fighting Championship stage back in the summer of 2014, there is simply no denying Jedrzejczyk another matchup with 'Thug' Rose. At still just 30 years of age, Joanna can still realistically reclaim her throne before the end of her career, and with a more practised approach and in my opinion, far more respect for the striking prowess of Namajunas, we may very well see the second reign of Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the near future.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz: A really interesting match up for the now former champ Jedrzejczyk, would be another rematch, this time against UFC 205 victim Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Despite failing to rebound from her premier professional loss to Claudia Gadelha where the Brazilian snatched a rear-naked choke win, the next contest for the Lodz native proved very successful. Facing Jodie Esquibel on the recent UFC Gdansk card, Karolina scored a quite dominant unanimous decision victory over the UFC newcomer. Interestingly Kowalkiewicz is the last opponent to defeat Rose Namajunas, so a career highlight win over fierce rival Jedrzejczyk would certainly warrant a rematch against 'Thug' Rose, this time with title implications. Kowalkiewicz also matched former opponent to both, Gadelha, in pushing her compatriot to her very limit.

Tecia Torres vs. Michelle Waterson winner: A true striking match up would see Joanna Jedrzejczyk face either Karate and Tae Kwon Do black belt Tecia Torres, or Karate black belt Michelle Waterson. Pick your poison JJ. Despite the striking credentials of both aforementioned ladies, Joanna may very well be the most accurate, precise and volume heavy striker in MMA history male or female, but if she is matched against either, she should certainly watch her P's and Q's.
