Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje to throw down in Spring:

Poirier (left) lands clean on former champ Eddie Alvarez.
Two Lightweight striking masters with lock horns sometime in Spring 2018, with Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier looking to continue his excellent run of form of late against relatively UFC newcomer and former WSOF phenom Justin 'The Highlight' Gaethje.

Poirier was actively lobbying for a rematch with former foe Eddie Alvarez who recently handed the aforementioned Gaethje his premier career defeat. Both Poirier and Alvarez clashed at UFC 211, with a couple of illegal knees from the former Lightweight crown holder forcing a 'No Contest'. A win for Alvarez against Gaethje was widely expected to setup a run back with 'The Diamond' who in his most recent octagon walk, dominated another former champion, this time, Anthony Pettis, with a nasty body triangle causing 'Showtime' rub injuries.

The current events scheduled for Spring are UFC 222, UFC Fight Night London and UFC 223 so expect this barn burner to find it's way onto one of these three cards, particularly UFC 223, with fellow Lightweight's Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov clashing for a Lightweight title. Maybe Poirier or Gaethje faces the loser of the previously mentioned title clash.

Expect fireworks...
