UFC champs Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier clash in UFC 226 Heavyweight headliner:

Our first 'superfight' since UFC 205.
The opening UFC PPV of year went off without a hitch for the current Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champions, with Euclid Ohio native Stipe Miocic defending his crown in a dominant decision display over feared contender Francis Ngannou, while reinstated 205lbs champ Daniel Cormier made another successful defence, this time establishing mounted crucifix in the second round to pound out Swiss striker Volkan 'No Time' Oezdemir. With little to no legitimate contenders available or identified at either division, both men have been pitted as coaches on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, ahead of an eventual summer 'superfight' with Cormier returning to Heavyweight in a bid to take Stipe's title.

After decimating both Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem in the opening rounds, Batié monster Francis Ngannou earned his premier crack at UFC gold, facing Miocic in the main event of Boston's UFC 220. Avoiding the terrifying power of Ngannou from the opening round on wards, Miocic implemented a strategic wrestling heavy approach and considerably wore out 'The Predator' on his way to an unheard of 50-44 unanimous decision retention. Miocic has garnered the accolade as the greatest heavyweight of all time with that victory, adding Ngannou to a list of victims which includes Junior Dos Santos, Fabrício Werdum, Mark Hunt and the aforementioned Overeem and Arlovski, finishing all but Ngannou. Difficult to argue against.

The simple fact at Light Heavyweight today is unfortunately, Daniel Cormier is the best 205 pounder in the world not named Jon Jones, and in my opinion, the somewhat likely return of the tarnished Jones would see him reclaim the Light Heavyweight title. Despite this, Cormier can only fight who the UFC match him up with, and has easily cemented himself as one of the great's with two victories over the now retired Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson, a decision win over Alexander Gustafsson, Dan Henderson, Anderson Silva, and former Heavyweight gold holders Josh Barnett and Frank Mir.

With extensive wresting backgrounds at the forefront for both champions, Miocic may hold a slight advantage in the striking exchanges.
