Tyron Woodley vs. Darren Till confirmed for UFC 228:

Current UFC Welterweight champion Tyron 'The Chosen One Woodley will defend his title this September at UFC 228 in Texas, as he features in the main event slot against Liverpool's kickboxing talent Darren 'The Gorilla' Till.

Interim champion Colby Covington who earned the opportunity to meet former teammate Woodley after picking up a decision win over Rafael dos Anjos, has been forced to sit out any potential clash with Woodley due to a nasal injury, undergoing surgery recently, and come fight night on September 8th, will be stripped of his Interim championship. Covington was eager to present the Interim Welterweight championship to United States President Donald Trump at the White House but plans of a rumoured meeting are now unlikely.

A recent shoulder injury has ruled the heavy hitter Woodley out of active competition since the summer of 2017, but has successfully defended his Welterweight crown on three separate occasions since his stunning one punch first round knockout over Robbie Lawler at UFC 201. Paired with Stephen Thompson first at UFC 205 and then in a rematch at UFC 209, Woodley narrowly fought to a majority draw at Madison Square Garden, thus retaining his title. The second clash between the two needed the judges scorecards again, with Woodley leaving Las Vegas with the win, a questionable decision this time round. Brazilian grappler Demian Maia's surge through the Welterweight division was abruptly ended by Woodley who received unjust criticism for his safety first approach in my opinion, as he stuck on the outside, stuffed multiple takedown attempts and rarely engaged with the dangerous Maia.

The popular Darren Till cemented his potential championship status in a blockbuster hometown event at UFC Fight Night Liverpool in May, picking up a unanimous decision win over over fellow kickboxing ace Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson, with home town favour particularly on show for the Scouse striker.

It's been a quick rise to the top of the Welterweight division for the youngster who has gone undefeated in his first six Octagon appearances, really beginning to blaze his trail with a first round knockout win over the wily, and incredibly versatile Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in Gdańsk.

Woodley and Till have been handed the main event slot at UFC 228, with Nicco Montaño electing to defend her Flyweight title in the co headliner versus Valentina Shevchenko after some injuries and bout agreement confusion.
