Joanna Jędrzejczyk vs Tecia Torres: What Will Go Down:

Once untouchable at Women's Strawweight, Polish striking ace Joanna Jędrzejczyk is now eager to snap a two fight losing streak this Saturday in the star studded main card of UFC Fight Night Calgary, as she meets surging contender Tecia 'Tiny Tornado' Torres with possible title implications on the line for the victor.

Muay Thai expert Joanna Jędrzejczyk was regarded by many as the greatest female mixed-martial arts competitor during her only, but lenghty title reign in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Joining the promotion from often affiliate organisation Cage Warriors, Joanna made an instant impact on the 115lbs division, scoring two consecutive decision victories, first over Juliana Lima, and then, more narrowly overcame the gritty Cláudia Gadelha. These two triumphs untimately earned 'JJ' a shot at then division queen Carla Esparza.

In a one sided beat down of Carla, Jędrzejczyk successfully claimed the Strawweight crown, going on to defend it an incredible five times before her eventual defeat to Rose Namajunas. In an even more dominant display, Joanna laid down three rounds of punishment on Jessica Penne forcing a stoppage late in the round. Facing now Bellator fighter Valérie Létourneau in her second title defence, Joanna similarly exacted a striking clinic this time over five rounds, securing a comfortable decision nod.

Arguably, the Olsztyn native's most impressive performances and competition came in her final three title defences. Re-running her early meeting with Gadelha, Joanna claimed another decision win, this time a little more clear cut. Appearing at UFC 205 in an all Polish affair, Joanna survived a late fifth round onslaught from Karolina Kowalkiewicz to continue her title reign. In my opinion, Jéssica Andrade presented Joanna's most dangerous siege to her throne after her move from Bantamweight, due to her aggressive nature, heavy hands and slick grappling game. Come fight night, Jędrzejczyk blew Andrade well and truely out of the water with a traditional Muay Thai clinic on her way to a five round win.

Carrying a little too much confidence and bravado into her UFC 217 meeting with Rose Namajunas, Jędrzejczyk was stung with a right hand in the early exchanges before tapping to strikes, as 'Thug' Rose became only the second ever UFC Women's Strawweight champion in the promotion's history.

Returning to the scene of her title defeat, a well and truely humbled 'JJ' displayed a much more familiar striking output than the first clash, but once more round herself leaving Madison Square Garden belt-less.

Losing her three fight winning streak to the previously mentioned Jéssica Andrade in February, Tecia Torres is attempting to possibly earn her premier UFC title tilt with a win over Jędrzejczyk, most certainly her stiffest competition to date. With a professional win column containing names such as Bec Rawlings, Juliana Lima, Fecile Herrig, the well rounded Michelle Waterson and most impressively, current champion Rose Namajunas.

Tecia is undeniably a very versatile and comfortable striker and grappler but in my opinion, she hasn't got that elite level 'x' factor that the best of the best have, and is ocean's apart from Joanna in terms of traditional kickboxing. Joanna also has championship level experience and has gone the distance in her last three successful title defences.

Joanna Jędrzejczyk via unanimous decision.
