Al Iaquinta Meets Cowboy Cerrone At UFC Fight Night Ottawa:

Title implications for the victor.

UFC's latest trip to Canada in May has it's main event signed sealed and delivered. 'Ragin' Al Iaquinta will meet veteran striker Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in the main event on May 4th. New York star Iaquinta recently went 2-0 against Kevin Lee in a inspired decision win while Cerrone made a successful return to 155lbs with a stoppage win over Alexander Hernandez, and was expected to meet Conor McGregor in July but the bout has reportedly failed to materialize.

6-1 in his last seven Octagon walks, Serra-Longo product Al Iaquinta is often the forgotten man in the stacked UFC Lightweight division. With that sole loss coming against the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov for the vacant championship back at UFC 223, Iaquinta has successfully balanced his realtor career outside the Octagon and his fight business inside it. With an eye for the stopping blow, wrestling prodigy Iaquinta holds six wins by knockout, finishing the likes of Joe Lauzon, Diego Sanchez and Ross Pearson, all of them gritty competitors. Scoring arguably the biggest victory of his career last time out, 'Ragin' Al outpointed the surging contender Kevin Lee who was fresh from a back and forth Interim clash clash with Tony Ferguson, over five rounds. Despite never falling victim to a knockout himself, Iaquinta has been submitted three times, something Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and active grappler Donald Cerrone will have a keen eye on in preparation for this clash.

The most winning-est fighter in UFC history and certainly one of the most popular and active, Denver Muay Thai expert 'Cowboy' Cerrone doesn't particularly like watching from the sidelines. Fresh from another head kick finish back in January, Cerrone finished rising wrestler Alexander Hernandez in a Lightweight rebirth after submitting the grizzly Mike Perry two months before hand. Campaigning for a dream match up with former two division champion Conor McGregor for this summer's International Fight Week, Cerrone told how the Dubliner was reluctant to sign the fight contract due to the possibility of starring in the co-main event, something 'The Notorious' one later refuted. A fantastic striker with a very active guard and bottom game, Cerrone has fought for both the WEC and UFC title on four separate occasions without success, but a victory over Iaquinta would surely all but guarantee another shot at UFC gold before he rides off into the sunset.

UFC Fight Night Ottawa takes place on May 4th. from the Canadian Tire Centre with a Middleweight meeting of hometown hero Elias Theodorou and heavy hitting Derek Brunson expected for the event, while an interesting Heavyweight clash between submission artist and Ezekiel choke specialist Alexey Oleynik and Walt Harris is also expected to land in Canada that night.
