Can Lawler make it 1-1?

Two of the most imposing Welterweight champions in recent memory will run it back this summer. Tyron 'The Chosen One' Woodley and 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler will reignite their rivalry in the headlining slot of UFC Fight Night Minneapolis on June 29th.

Both Woodley and Lawler will look to avoid a two fight losing streak when the Octagon door slams behind them, with both men dropping losses to Kamaru Usman and Ben Askren respectively at UFC 235. Losing his 170lbs crown in dominant fashion to Usman in the co-main event, Woodley was taken down at will by the Nigerian grappler who displayed a crushing top game and fantastic clinch work to take a 50-44 decision victory with him back to South Florida with Henri Hooft.

Lawler on the other hand, acting as welcoming party for the popular Ben Askren, dropped a controversial bulldog choke submission to the former WSOF Lightweight champion after some damaging ground and pound of his own. Rumoured to rematch Askren in July, the promotion have subsequently booked the Woodley rematch instead, with "Funky" Ben expected to meet recent UFC London big winner Jorge Masvidal.

Both men initially faced off back in 2016 at UFC 201, with Woodley uncorking a first round bomb on the chin of Lawler to take the Welterweight crown, before successfully defending the championship four times.

UFC Fight Night Minneapolis takes place on June 29th. from the Target Centre.
