Current UFC flyweight and bantamweight world champion Henry 'The Messenger' Cejudo, has issued a word of warning to former featherweight champion José Aldo, as rumors circulate that the Brazilian is a plotting a move to 135 pounds. The Olympic gold medalist posted a video on his official Twitter page, where he mentions some division movers and the returning Urijah Faber. Captioned as, "This is a PSA message brought to you by Triple C. "Where's Waldo?" @josealdojunior"
"I think it's crazy these last, these last couple months, that we've had legends like, or so-called legends like Urijah Faber, Frankie Edgar, and José 'Waldo' coming down to my weight division. As a matter of fact, José 'Waldo' the self-proclaimed 'King of Rio', let me tell you who Triple C is. Olympic champ, flyweight champ and now bantamweight champion of the world. I'm the king of the world. You can do me a favor and you can bend the knee too, and one last thing, your movie sucks."
Recently rumblings suggest that the 32-year-old Aldo has begun measuring his options ahead of a potential move to bantamweight, from featherweight. Last competing at UFC 237 opposite Alexander Volkanovski in unanimous decision defeat, Aldo may entertain the possibility of a rather bizarre move down a division rather than up. Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber made a u-turn on his retirement just last month, successfully returning after three years away from the Octagon with a stunning knockout victory over Ricky Simon. Former lightweight best Frankie Edgar has also moved to a new home of 135 pounds and is reportedly set to make his divisional bow against top contender Aljamain Sterling this November at UFC 244 in Madison Square Garden.
Speaking after Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series last night, the promotion president outlined the possible next course of action for 'champ champ' Cejudo. "Right now, we have some things playing out at 135 pounds. What we'd like to see Cejudo do is defend his title against Benavidez. Benavidez is ready. It's the right thing to do. If he can't, then he needs to give up one of the belts. He needs to defend that flyweight title. First of all, we're playing some things out to see who's going to be the next challenger at 35 (135 pounds). Benavidez is ready to go. He deserves it and he has a win over Cejudo."
Joseph Benavidez has once again established himself as the number one contender at the top of the flyweight pile, courtesy of a second-round knockout victory over Jussier Formiga, and also holds bragging rights as the last man to defeat Cejudo, albeit via a rather dubious decision win.
