Dana White Comments On Conor McGregor's April Assault Incident

UFC President Dana White has spoken about the current controversy surrounding former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor. Footage emerged yesterday morning from news outlet TMZ, of McGregor's alleged involvement in an assault in Drimnagh's Marble Arch pub on April 6th. this year.
McGregor can be seen entering the pub on CCTV footage and attempts to buy measures of his Proper Twelve whiskey for the patrons, with an elderly pub-goer refusing on two separate occasions. It's believed the man in question had already ordered a taxi and was preparing to finish his drink and leave. The man can be seen saying something to McGregor before turning away. McGregor then strokes his beard before drawing and punching the man in the side of his face. The 31-year-old is immediately escorted from the premises by two men. Reports this morning suggest McGregor may be charged with assault after the man involved gave a statement to An Garda Siochána in a file which has since been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Ahead of UFC 241 in Anaheim, California tomorrow night, promotion President Dana White spoke about the incident with CBS Sports Network's Jim Rome. "That happened in April, I knew that happened, they just got the video, it's pretty bad. It's not allegedly, it's pretty clear. So apparently this was in a pub in Ireland and it was an argument over whiskey. Conor has a whiskey now and it was an argument over the whiskey and Conor reaches out and hits him with a left hook. I don't know the context of it. I don't know the entire story but he punches a guy, an older man, in the face. I knew he had, had an altercation at a bar but I didn't know with who or any of that, I didn't know anything, I just know it happened."
This incident adds to a now lengthy rap sheet of runs in with the law for McGregor. The Dubliner was spotted on CCTV footage outside a beachfront hotel in Miami, stomping on a man's phone before an arrest and a night in jail after an altercation over a picture the man had snapped. McGregor also had his driver's license suspended for six months in November last year as well been issued a €1,000 fine for speeding after he was clocked at 154kph in a 100kph zone. Maybe most infamously, McGregor alongside Cian Cowley was arrested after throwing a moving dolly through a bus window during UFC 223 fight week after an altercation between SBG teammate Artem Lobov and future opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Dana later added; "You get to a point where you look at a guy like Conor and you look at the bus incident in New York and the camera, the phone, the guy who took the picture of him in Miami and he slaps the phone, what's the number? What's it going to cost Conor McGregor before he decides, "all right, this isn't worth it, enough is enough, I need to stop doing this." "The incident in New York cost him millions. Millions he had to payout. He had to pay that guy with the phone. What's he going to have to pay that guy he hit at the bar. The list just goes on and on. I just don't know when he wakes up and says, "I've got to stop doing this."
McGregor, who last competed at UFC 229 in a fourth-round neck crank loss to fierce rival Khabib Nurmagomdov, has campaigned for a rematch with the undefeated Dagestan native so far without success. The Dubliner was expected to return sometime this summer until a hand injury suffered during sparring according to head coach John Kavanagh, and subsequent surgery in late May scuppered a return. Dana White has told how McGregor was keeping a close eye on proceedings between former opponent Nate Diaz and former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis who clash this weekend, as well as Khabib's second title defense against interim champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in September before plotting a return to the Octagon.
