Mike Grundy Makes Weight Despite UFC Fight Island 7 Fight Cancellation

Team Kaobon Wigan mainstay, Mike Grundy may have been forced from his UFC Fight Island 7 clash with veteran contender, Nik Lentz due to a positive COVID-19 test result from his one of his team members, however, that hasn't stopped him successfully making the featherweight limit on the scales.

Following in the footsteps of former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson, Grundy successfully tipped the featherweight scales this morning, posting on his official Instagram, a picture of a weighing scales reading 145-pounds. 

Oxnard native, Ferguson had previously set out a marker of intent ahead of his cancelled UFC 249 matchup with current undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov -- successfully making championship weight of 155-pounds despite the cancellation of his contest with the Dagestan native.

The veteran then met with fellow former interim champion, Justin 'The Highlight' Gaethje in Jacksonville in May last, dropping a fifth-round knockout in a damaging loss, having made championship weight once more in a short space of time. Many within the mixed martial arts community speculated that Ferguson's decision to cut weight twice in the space of a month as a factor in his punishing, one-sided loss to Gaethje. 

A two-fight Octagon veteran, 33-year-old grappling ace, Grundy successful made his transition to the UFC in March of 2019, taking home a second-round knockout victory over former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Nad Narimani.

At UFC Fight Island 3 in July, Grundy suffered his first professional defeat since he established a nine-fight undefeated run, dropping a unanimous decision loss to the highly-touted, Mosvar Evloev. 

Grundy had arrived in the UFC off the back of a featherweight championship victory over Fernando Bruno at Aspera FC 58 in Gaspar, Brazil.
