Conor McGregor Aiming For Even Quicker Finish Of Dustin Poirier Ahead Of Proposed Rematch

In 2014 at UFC 178, former two-weight world champion, 'The Notorious' Conor McGregor had stamped his featherweight title intentions against fellow contender, Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier in just under two-minutes inside the opening round. 

Six year's later ahead of a proposed lightweight re-run in January, McGregor has vowed to finish the Lafayette native even quicker.

Former lightweight gold holders, Poirier and McGregor are widely expected to rematch at 155-pounds at a pay-per-view event on January 23rd. - expected to be billed as UFC 257, with promotional president, Dana White claiming that as far as he's aware, the fight is a done deal.

McGregor, who had initially offered to meet American Top Team staple, Poirier in a December charity mixed martial arts event in Dublin's docklands, was along with the latter, instead offered a bout agreement by the organization for a re-run to take place under their scrutiny. 

Despite the Dubliner's calls for the bout to take place in either November at UFC 255 or December at the promotion's final flagship event, UFC 256, respectively - it's believed the two will meet at the originally targeted UFC 257 showcase, with McGregor detailing how he'll pledge $500,000 to Poirier's charity, The Good Fight Foundation, to boot. 

Holding a #AskNotorious Q&A session on his official Twitter throughout yesterday evening, McGregor called Poirier "a hell of a fighter" but claimed he's planning on closing the show even faster this time around.

"I will aim to not only improve on the time I beat him (Dustin Poirier) in previously, but the shot that I slept him with also!" McGregor replied. "Poirier is a hell of a fighter, but I'm (Conor) McGregor."

Both strikers enter the proposed pairing fresh off wins, with Poirier scoring a return to the win column in a UFC Vegas main event decision win over Dan 'The Hangman' Hooker in June. For McGregor, the 32-year-old rebounded himself at UFC 246 in January, taking home a forty-second knockout win over future Hall of Fame inductee, Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone.
