Report: Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch Slated For UFC Event on January 30th.

Originally calling for a clash with striking prospect, Edmen Shahbazyan, one-time interim UFC middleweight championship challenger, Kelvin Gastelum has been paired with Ian Heinisch for a UFC Fight Night event on January 30th. - with a location and venue for the showcase yet to be determined by the promotion.

San Jose, California native, Gastelum looks to snap a three-fight slide at 185-pounds, following his most recent defeat at UFC Fight Island 2 in July where he suffered a quickfire heel-hook loss to Jack 'The Joker' Hermansson in the co-headlining bout.

Removed from a fight with Roufusport talent, Brendan Allen twice, most recently at UFC Vegas 13 last weekend, former interim LFA 185-pound best, Ian Heinisch has been out of action since June. Featuring at UFC 250 in June, Heinisch scored a timely opening-round knockout win over grappler, Gerald Meerschaert. Talented Kings MMA striker, Gastelum rounded off his three-fight slide with a defeat to Hermansson earlier this year, after a close decision loss to Darren Till, and current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya - the latter, judged as the 2019 Fight of the Year.

A slick boxer, Gastelum has picked up notable UFC wins over the likes of Uriah Hall, Rick Story, Jake Ellenberger, Nate Marquart, Johny Hendricks, Tim Kennedy, Michael Bisping, and Jacaré Souza. 

Denver, Colorado native, Heinisch snapped a two-fight skid with his first-round knockout win over Meerschaert this summer. 

Faltering against both Omari Akhmedov and Derek Brunon, Heinisch, who transitioned from Dana White's Contender Series back in July of 2018 - has managed other Octagon wins opposite Brazilian pair, Cezar Ferreira, and Antonio Carlos Junior.
