Leon Edwards Open To March 13th. Matchups With Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, Or Nate Diaz

Following the cancellation of his UFC Vegas 21 headliner on March 13th. against Khamzat Chimaev, surging welterweight challenger, Leon Edwards has noted his interest in remaining on the card -- calling for potential matchups against Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington, or even Nate Diaz.

Team Renegade BJJ & MMA mainstay, Edwards has been out of action since UFC Fight Night San Antonio back in July of 2019 -- where he notched a stunning eighth consecutive victory with a unanimous decision win over former lightweight titleholder, Rafael dos Anjos. 

Forced from an Octagon return at UFC Vegas 17 in December, Edwards was stricken with a particularly debilitating case of COVID-19 ruling him from the main event matchup against the Swedish-born uber-prospect.

Rescheduled to take main event status at UFC Fight Island 7 on January 20th. -- Chimaev failed to obtain medical clearance ahead of the event, due to lingering issues with his lungs having tested positive for the novel coronavirus late last year. Still dealing with physical issues ahead of the March 13th. outing, Chimaev is expected to receive some more medication but has once more been forced to withdraw.

Providing a statement to ESPN MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, Edward's manager, Tim Simpson detailed how his client is interested in remaining on the March 13th. card -- and is open to bouts against rival, Jorge Masvidal, former interim champion, Colby Covington, and the would-be returning, Diaz. 

Doubling-down on calls for Stockton veteran, Diaz, Edwards himself tweeted his interest in matching against the Californian at the welterweight limit of 170-pounds.

"Nate (Diaz) just dribbled for an hour about wanting to fight at 170 (-pounds) against winners... let's see it then @NateDiaz209. Eight fight win streak and #3 in the world. Let's go if you still think you're a real one."
