According to former UFC featherweight and lightweight title challenger and The Ultimate Fighter 1 finalist, Kenny 'KenFlo' Florian, former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion, Georges 'Rush' St-Pierre is preparing for a potential Octagon comeback, in a long-speculated 'superfight' against current undisputed lightweight kingpin, Khabib 'The Eagle' Nurmagomedov.

Massachusetts favourite, Florian spoke with UFC commentator, Jon Anik during a recent episode of the Anik and Florian Podcast -- detailing how according to a renowned coach, a potential pairing of Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre may be in the works.

"I heard some pretty crazy news over the weekend," Florian told Anik. "I won't say exactly where it's from but it's from a well-known coach who, apparently, is aware of a fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and a legend in the UFC, a former two-time champion, Georges St-Pierre."

"Supposedly that is a fight that, I don't know if it's confirmed -- but it is a fight that Georges might be getting ready for and is preparing for. I don't think he'd (St-Pierre) be getting ready for that or be telling people that he's going to be getting ready for a big fight unless it was actually happening."

Since Nurmagomedov's speculated retirement following UFC 254 back in October of last year, many have questioned if the undefeated Dagestani is actually hanging up his gloves for good. Many in the mixed martial arts community have clamoured for a 'superfight' between Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre, and sharing a similar opinion as the masses -- Florian told how he believes a fight with the latter would draw the former from retirement.

"And for me, I think the only fight Khabib Nurmagomedov would come back for would be against a legend of that kind of stature. A guy that did many similar things that he did. And you can kind of bill it as a fight between two of the biggest takedown monsters in (the) UFC."

While Florian has claimed that a potential pairing of Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre may be on the horizon, the former's manager, Dominance MMA leader, Ali Abdelaziz has poured cold water on that potential pairing, claiming himself that the rumoured matchup is "fake news".

"Khabib (Nurmagomedov) vs. GSP (Georges St-Pierre) the rumour is completely false. Fake news."

Replying to former UFC lightweight contender and now Bellator MMA colour-commentator, Josh 'The Punk' Thomson, Abdelaziz claimed UFC president, Dana White had no interest in the tie, before detailing how St-Pierre had no need to fight anymore.

"Yes is a complete lie because Dana (White) has no interest or GSP he's amazing he get (sic) to do whatever he wants he doesn't need to fight."

Last competing at UFC 217 back in November of 2017, longtime Tristar and Firas Zahabi product, St-Pierre made his Octagon return in a main event clash against then-middleweight champion, Michael 'The Count' Bisping become a two-weight world champion via a late, third-round rear-naked choke win.

In regards to Nurmagomedov's fighting future, the sambo specialist has reportedly claimed to the aforenoted, White that he wouldn't hold up the division from crowing a new champion, with former interim champion, Dustin 'The Diamond' Poirier primed to clash for a vacant title, against a combination of either Charles 'Do Bronx' Oliveira, or 'Iron' Michael Chandler next.
