Max Holloway To Defend Featherweight Crown At UFC 245 Against Alexander Volkanovski
Jeff Bottari-Zuffa LLC Max Holloway enters the Octagon for the third time this year, attempting a fourth title defense. |
Holloway returned to his featherweight roots with a unanimous decision title defense against Frankie Edgar at UFC 240 recently, after an unsuccessful interim lightweight title clash with former-foe Dustin Poirier in April earlier this year. In the five-round re-run with Poirier, the Hawaiian lost his thirteen fight win streak and looked quite undersized come fight night with the American Top Team staple.
Australian bruiser Volkanovski has made short work of his featherweight peers in his brisk blitz through the rankings, laying the foundations of an impressive professional record. With just a single loss on his résumé, Volkanovski has stopped former top featherweight contender Chad Mendes and picked up two unanimous decision's over the steely Darren Elkins, and most notably, a three-round shutout against former featherweight champion José Aldo on foreign soil in Rio de Janeiro.
UFC 245 takes place from the T-Mobile Arena on December 14th. with an aforementioned bantamweight title tilt between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie set to place. Welterweight veteran Matt 'The Immortal' Brown also ends a two year hiatus from the Octagon as he meets wily grappler Ben Saunders, and Jessica Eye looks to return to winning ways after her shocking championship head kick knockout loss to Valentina Shevchenko, as she meets the talented finisher, Viviane 'Vivi' Araújo. A welterweight showcase between the surging Santiago Ponzinibbio and former division best Robbie Lawler will also feature on the card.
