Tony Ferguson Calls For Khabib Nurmagomedov Title Clash At December's UFC 245

Tony Ferguson has suggested a December 14th. meeting with longtime foe Nurmagomedov.

Long-time top contender Tony 'El Cucuy' Ferguson has told ESPN's Ariel Helwani how he hopes to face reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at December's UFC 245 in Las Vegas, in the promotion's pay-per-view curtain closer of 2019. Khabib unified the lightweight championships against Dustin Poirier via a third-round rear-naked choke in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night in a performance 'El Cucuy' described as "lazy", and a long-awaited clash with the former interim champion remains the only logical fight for 'The Eagle' in the current 155-pound landscape. Speaking with renowned mixed-martial-arts journalist Ariel Helwani on the 'Helwani Show', Ferguson told how a UFC 245 date with Khabib would suffice if the Dagestani accepted the challenge.

"If I were in charge we doing this s**t in December, Ariel. You know what? I'm calling it right now, we called it already, we need to do this s**t in December, we're gonna let Khabib go and eat his hamburgers with cheese and all the other bulls**t, enjoy it 'fathead' don't get too fat, I'm coming at you harder than tiramisu Tuesday's, I mean, it's still there man it's poppin', I got some new s**t for you guys I'm really excited."

When posed the question of the possibility of the December 14th. event by Helwani, Ferguson told; "That's what we want, that's the date that we want, we wanna go out there, we wanna perform in Vegas, that's what I want, I know Khabib whatever he says, literally you gotta accept the fight now, defend or vacate seriously. Just set it down and f**king walk away buddy, just say to everybody that you don't wanna fight me, you're scared, you retired, do whatever the f**k you wanna do, you made your money. Just sit it down and walk away. If not, literally that's where I wanna fight, I wanna fight in December I'm tired of fighting once a year Ariel, I'll be real with you I'm a competitor, I'm a high-level competitor, I'm a multi-sport athlete I don't like sitting here and watching people compete, I'm not tryna move or jump weight classes, I got asses to kick here. So until I get that belt, that's all we're going for. Gimmie a title shot or bust."

Over the last four years, we've seen Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov scheduled to clash on a whopping four different occasions, but due to injuries and a botched weight cut attempt, we're yet to witness one of the greatest fights on paper in lightweight division history take place. Both men are currently surging with twelve fight win streaks each, Ferguson the outlier of the contender's at 155 pounds after his second-round doctor's stoppage victory over Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in June.

UFC 245 currently features a women's bantamweight title rematch between current two-division champion Amanda Nunes and inaugural featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie, while a 145-pound title meeting between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski is rumored to take place. A card headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson for the undisputed lightweight championship is arguably in my opinion, the most fitting way to end the year.
