UFC Fight Night Copenhagen Official Results

The Octagon touched down at the Royal Arena in Denmark this weekend for UFC Fight Night Copenhagen: Hermansson vs. Cannonier bringing an exciting thirteen fight card to the European stage. A card stacked with recognisable names from top to bottom featured the debut of former Cage Warriors bantamweight best, Jack 'Tank' Shore who puts his undefeated record on the line against Nohelin Hernandez in our preliminary opener.

In main card action, another former Cage Warriors standout makes his return to the Octagon, as Denmark's own Nicolas Dalby takes on Brazil's Alex 'Cowboy' Oliveira. We also see the return of Iceland's consummate grappler Gunnar Nelson tonight as he meets short-notice replacement and fellow high-level Jiu-Jitsu player Gilbert 'Durinho' Burns. Our headliner of the evening consists of a high stakes middleweight matchup between the surging Swede Jack 'The Joker' Hermansson, and heavy hitting hopeful Jared 'The Killa Gorilla' Cannonier.

Bringing a gleaming 11-0 record with him to the promotion, Welsh youngster Jack Shore makes his organizational debut against Nohelin Hernandez, who looks to rebound from a difficult submission loss to Marlon Vera in his recent Octagon bow. Making good on his call to the Octagon, Shore wrapped up his debut with a third round rear-naked choke win to quick off this evening's action.

A really exciting lightweight clash took honours next, as dynamic strikers Lando Vannata meets Marc Diakiese. A solid display of outside calf kicks and in the later rounds, some solid takedowns and scrambles secured Diakiese a 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26 unanimous decision.

In a bantamweight clash, Macy Chiasson met with Sweden's Lina Lansberg. In a clinch and wrestling heavy three rounder, Lansberg handed Chiasson her premier professional loss with a 29-28, 29-28, 29-27 unanimous decision.

Featherweight hopefuls Brandon Davis and Georgia debutante Giga Chikadze squared off in out next preliminary bout. Chikadze, a former GLORY kickboxing ace marked his Octagon bow with a unanimous decision win.

Afghan native Siyar Bahadurzada returned to the Octagon for the first time since December 2018, as he met Ismail Naurdiev midway through our preliminary card.  A wrestling clinic for the Austrian Naurdiev seen him pick up an impressive, smothering win.

Italian native Alessio Di Chirico makes the walk next at middleweight, as he acts as welcoming party for Uzbekistan's Makhmud Muradov. In an exciting three round back-and-forth, Rome's Di Chirico took home a unanimous decision win.

In our featured preliminary bout of the evening, Alen Amedovski threw down with SBGi trainee John Phillips. In timely fashion, 'The Welsh Wrecking Machine' John Phillips landed a highlight reel stoppage inside the opening fifteen seconds.

Former Cage Warriors welterweight best Nicolas Dalby makes his return in his hometown against the dangerous Alex Oliveira in our opening main card clash of the evening. In a fight of scrambles and sweeps, and a couple of questionable officiating decisions, hometown hero Nicolas Dalby scored a win on his Octagon return with a 29-28 unanimous decision.

A clash at light heavyweigth was next on the booking, with Poland's Michal Oleksiejczuk taking on one-time interim light heavyweight title chaser Ovince Saint Preux. In incredible fashion, Knoxville native Saint Preux secured a fourth career Von Flue choke submission.

Ion Cutelaba meets Khalil Rountree Jr. next in a light heavyweight three rounder. In a high pace opening round, Cutelaba ducked under a winging left hook from Rountree Jr. and powered through with a double leg to set up a brutal barrage of elbows and ground-and-pound to get the stoppage.

The cool, calm and collected Gunnar Nelson was originally scheduled to meet former welterweight title challenger Thiago 'Pitbull' Alves in a co-main event pairing, but instead meets fellow grappling ace, Brazilian powerhouse Gilbert Burns. On just two weeks notice, Burns displayed some solid wrestling and counter striking to pick up a 29-28 unanimous decision.

An Olympic silver medallist in Greco-Roman wrestling makes the walk in out co-main event feature, as Denmark's own Mark Madsen makes his first appearance under the UFC banner, as he meets Italy's Danillo Belluardo. Immediately shooting for the takedown, Madsen eventually secured half guard and began hammering Belluardo with strikes from the top to force a stoppage inside the opening minute and a half.

Main event action to close the night, as Jack Hermansson looks to add to his four fight win streak as he draws the surging 185-pound powerhouse Jared Cannonier. Implemention of leg kicks was key for Cannonier as I mentioned in my pre-fight Fighter Profile feature and inside the opening round, 'The Killa Gorilla' began chopping at Hermansson's lead calf with inside and outside variations. Within the opening minute of the second round, Cannonier clipped Hermansson with a check uppercut as the Swede shot for a takedown, and finished with brutal ground-and-pound.
