Megan Anderson No Longer Under Contract With The UFC Amid Loss To Amanda Nunes

UFC 259 title challenger, Megan Anderson is no longer under contract with the promotion -- fighting out the last fight of her deal in Saturday's featherweight title challenge loss to two-weight world champion, Amanda Nunes.

Expected to test free-agency, Anderson had claimed during a stream on her official Twitch channel on Tuesday that she had been informed by the UFC that they plan on closing the 145-pound division following a matchup between former opponent, Felicia Spencer and Danyelle Wolf on May 7th. Those claims, however, have been rebuffed by promotional officials, as per ESPN MMA reporter, Marc Raimondi. MMA Fighting reporters, Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz confirmed the expiration of Anderson's contract with promotion officials. 

Challenging for the undisputed featherweight title in the co-main event of this past weekend's UFC 259 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Australian striker dropped a one-sided triangle armbar submission inside the opening two minutes of the first round, following a multitude of damaging shots on the feet. 

Disputing Anderson's claims that the UFC is set to cut ties with the featherweight division, UFC officials confirmed that those claims weren't true. UFC president, Dana White had detailed following Saturday's event how as long as defending champion, Nunes wanted to compete at the 145-pound limit, they would accommodate and leave the division open. 

A six-fight promotional veteran, Anderson established an even 3-3 record during her three-year stint with the North American outfit. Debuting with a unanimous decision loss to former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, the Queensland native would then return to winning-ways with a bizarre eye injury win over Cat Zingano after a round kick landed on the former title challengers eye.

Dropping an opening round rear-naked choke defeat to fellow former title chaser, Spencer, Anderson earned her shot at Nunes with a pair of submission and knockout wins over Zarah Fairn dos Santos and Norma Dumont Viana, respectively.
