UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference Recap:

A huge summer of fights await!
We are just one day out from the monumental UFC 211 card from Dallas, Texas, but first, big business awaits at the UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference as Dana White promises that "the summer of 2017 will be one of the biggest in UFC history". With stars from UFC 212 through UFC 214 in attendance, fireworks and fight announcements are a certainty for this presser. With the earlier announcement of Gunnar Nelson's clash with Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Joanne Calderwood's meeting with Cynthia Calvillo, expect huge clashes to be confirmed from the UFC brass.

Before the event got underway, UFC Lightweight contender Kevin Lee took to Twitter to post a video of a backstage clash between UFC 214 headliners Daniel Cormier and long term rivals Jon 'Bones' Jones, as the UFC Light Heavyweight title rematch takes place this summer. Jon Anik got us underway for the presser, with stars like Amanda Nunes, Valentina Shevchenko, Chris Weidman, Kelvin Gastelum, Michael Johnson and the newly signed Justin Gaethje on display. The first question was posed to the retuning Jon Jones who was greeted with a mixed bag of boos and applause as he was questioned about his feelings toward the rematch and whether or not we would finally see a second bout with Cormier materialise. Jones told how his MMA career made "a lot to me" and confirmed how both himself and Cormier almost came "to blows behind the curtains". Jones then told how 'DC' wasn't the actual champ and how Daniel had never beaten him, so in his mind the belt across from him was "a piece of s**t". Cormier and Jones then went at it with Cormier bringing back Jones' suspension, goading Jones asking "are you back junkie?" Fan favourite Chris Weidman then was questioned about his rematch with Mousasi and told how Gegard wouldn't sign, so he took a bout with youngster Kelvin Gastelum. Gastelum then told how he still respected Anderson Silva after the UFC 212 bout fell through. Cormier explained how he if Jones "kept playing around up here, you'll see a side of me on the streets of Dallas". Lightweight Kevin Lee then aimed barbs at UFC champ Conor McGregor calling the Dublin star "fake". Ariel Helwani then received his almost guaranteed ovation as he asked Jones if he would headline UFC 214, Jones was unable to confirm while Cormier was in the same boat, Jones then told how he never considered a tune up fight ahead of his out with Cormier. Justin Gaethje and Michael 'The Menace' Johnson then traded shots as Johnson's questioned Justin's history in World Series of Fighting. Former Women's Bantamweight queen Holly Holm explains how she learned from her previous two defeats and who Bethe Correia was the opponent standing in her way of success. Johnson then promised to take Gaethje's "life". Promising undefeated  star Cynthia Calvillo promised how she "belonged" on the main card stage. Brazil's Amanda Nunes was next on the mic and confirmed that she was eyeing a move to 145lbs after she "beats" Valentine Shevchenko again. Dagestan striker Shevchenko said a lot of luck was Nunes' side in their premier bout. Shevchenko claimed Amanda had "two more months to speak, and then it will be done". Supreme grappler Michael Chiesa called Kevin Lee "a dork who looks like he got kicked out of Woodstock" before Lee traded barbs with Michael Johnson and the 'Maverick' Chiesa. Things got out of hand as Chiesa and Lee both engaged and were subsequently removed after Lee began talking about Michael's mother. Former title challenger Cláudia Gadelha told how Rose Namajunas doesn't deserve a title shot. Karolina Kowalkiewicz praised Gadelha and labelled the Brazilian as "one of the best". Scottish favourite Joanne Calderwood explained her disappointment in not knowing about the Women's Flyweight division until after she accepted the bout with Calvillo, praising the young prospect as the "best I've faced to date". Cormier then questioned whether Jones would actually turn up in Anaheim and questioned "what is this man going to do this time", with Jones telling how "I beat your ass after a weekend of cocaine". Bethe Correia then told how Holm was a good boxer but MMA was a different game. Jones told how his off time consisted mainly of Jiu-Jitsu and relaxation. With all questions answered, Jon Anik got us prepared for the face offs.
