| Will Mark Hunt earn JDS or Miocic rematch with the conquering of Overeem? |
Heavyweight behemoths Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt will meet once again, in a potential UFC Heavyweight title eliminator at UFC 209 next week. Overeem, an iconic figure in the world of mixed-martial arts, holds a very impressive 41-15 professional record, has claimed K-1, Strikeforce and DREAM world titles, and has an incredible 38 finishes in his favour. 'The Reem' has faced Saturday's opponent Hunt before, securing an americana finish against the heavy hitter back in DREAM. Overeem is one of the most experienced to still compete in the gruelling sport, beating Vitor Belfort, Igor Vovchanchyn, Sergei Kharitonov in PRIDE, Paul Buentello and Fabricio Werdum in Strikeforce and Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Junior dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, earning him a UFC 203 title shot against Stipe Miocic. Overeem looked very cautious in Cleveland, sometimes running from Miocic, before being knocked out, after a huge shot dropped Miocic in the 1st round. Hunt on the otherhand, lost to Brock Lesnar at UFC 200, in subsequently controversial circumstances, after the return of Lesnar was overshadowed by a failed drug test in which clomiphene was present in his test samples. 'Super Samoan' Hunt claimed two consecutive knockout victories before his eventual no contest against Lensar, stopping Antônio 'Bigfoot' Silva and Frank Mir. Both Overeem and Hunt possess undoubtedly the heaviest hands in the entire division, but Overeem's underestimated grappling ability and vicious body kicks may play a factor in this bout. Hunt may be able to exploit the extremely deteriorated chin of 'The Reem', who has been KO'ed 10 times in his illustrious career, and looked extremely vulnerable against Miocic. Overeem will be the much taller and longer fighter in this long awaited rematch, where the victor may set up a Heavyweight title shot against the winner of UFC 211's main event between Stipe Miocic and Junior dos Santos.
