Who should welcome GSP back to the UFC:

The humble yet dominant GSP's hiatus is over!
With the recent announcement of the imminent return of iconic mixed-martial artist Georges St-Pierre to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the rumour mill has most certainly been sent into overdrive regarding his 'welcoming party' on his trip back to the octagon. One cannot converse about the all time greats of the sport, without throwing GSP's name about, and rightly so. Unforgettable confrontations, weather that be against B.J. Penn, Matt Hughes, Matt Serra or fan favourite Nick Diaz, or his unprecedented dominance of the Welterweight division, Canada's St-Pierre deserves to be recognised as one of the sports most formidable, influential stars, and pioneers. So, who should welcome the superstar back to the game?

Nick Diaz: Undoubtedly one of the biggest matchs the UFC could muster up, would be a welcomed rematch between GSP and Diaz. Just imagine, both men making their returns in a sold out Rogers or Air Canada Centre, it would be something to behold. Back at UFC 158, St-Pierre defended his 170lbs title against Stockton star Nick Diaz, and picked up a unanimous decision victory. This bout would most certainly reignite Diaz's spectacular trash-talking seen in the pre fight press conferences, claiming St-Pierre was taking steroids and after the California star dominantly overcame B.J. Penn, he called out GSP, telling how the Canadian was scared rather than injury, referring to the champs knee injury. What a rematch.

Anderson Silva: This forever forced and rumoured 'superfight', may be closer to occurring than ever before, arguably at the worst time for the fans. Rumours spiralled throughout the 2010's of a bout, which ultimately never materialised for different reasons, but we may finally see the coming together of St-Pierre and Silva. The dream match would have seen then Welterweight and Middleweight kings 'Rush' and 'The Spider' square off to determine the P4P best, but with the hiatus of Georges and the eventual dethroning of Silva as champ at the hands of Chris Weidman, both unfortunately never met. Now, things are a whole lot different, St-Pierre is back, and Silva picked up a recent, all be it controversial win against Derek Brunson, fans can once again clamber for a catchweight contest.

Conor McGregor: What a matchup! We recently heard how St-Pierre may be willing to experiment at Lightweight, coincidentally, the division owned by new PPV king Conor McGregor, and the obvious opponent for 'Rush' would be 'The Notorious' kingpin. This contest presents the most barriers to overcome if these two are to meet, with the still stifling chatter of a Mayweather V McGregor boxing match surrounding and spilling over into the UFC, and yet another introduction of an interim title to be contested by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson presenting the hurdles for this bout. Assuming McGregor eventually faces and defeats either 'The Eagle' or 'El Cucuy' why not afford the opportunity of a title challenge to GSP? Also, if the so called biggest fight in sports doesn't come to fruition, this may take that title with ease, most certainly numbers wise.

Tyron Woodley/Stephen Thompson: With these two set to run it back next Saturday for the Welterweight crown, St-Pierre could be tossed right at the winner, a truly scaring and unfair prospect. The explosive knockout and wrestling ability of Woodley, or the karate and kickboxing credentials of 'Wonderboy', could see GSP leave as quick as he returns. The unfair side of this matchup, is the UFC's unwillingness to award Demian Maia with a shot at the 170lbs title, after the Brazilian grappler amassed a 6 fight win streak, made Carlos Condit look like a white belt, and refused to take another fight, which wouldn't be contested for the crown. If St-Pierre was to be offered the chance to reclaim the Welterweight gold, expect Maia to be sadly leapfrogged.
