Holly Holm V Germaine de Randamie: What will go down:
Will Holm or de Randamie grab the inaugural Featherweight strap at UFC 208? |
The inguaral UFC Women's Featherweight championship will be up for grabs at UFC 208 this weekend, as Holly 'The Preacher's Daughter' Holm, will face Dutch kickboxing star Germaine de Randamie. Holm will be looking to add a second UFC title to her trophy cabinet, after becoming the first to ever defeat Ronda Rousey back at UFC 193, subsequently taking the Women's Bantamweight crown in the process, while 'The Iron Lady' will be attempting to burst onto the mixed martial arts scene, after her incredible 37-0 undefeated kickboxing record. Both ladies have achieved so much outside of the octagon, with Holm a multiple time boxing champ and the aforementioned kickboxing record of Utrecht born de Randamie, earning her three WIKBA world championships. This contest will no doubt be a striking affair, with both accomplished knockout artists, with Holm's notable wins against Rousey and Jan Finney, while Germaine has finished 2 of her 4 UFC bouts. Holm is a nasty counter striker, and looks to setup her devastatingly high kicks through her powerful left hand, while de Randamie implies frequent knee strikes and low bruising leg kicks. With both women so traversed on the feet, and inexperienced on the ground, this fight has all the potential to be a full on stand up war. The main factor to be considered in my opinion is Holm's experience on the big stage in the game of MMA, headlining UFC 193 before claiming the title, and playing second fiddle to Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in her Bantamweight championship loss to Miesha Tate. I also imagine a hungry and determined Holm, who has tasted defeat twice in her last two contests against the aforementioned Tate and future UFC Women's Bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko, and who has experience of a five round main event slot in her mixed martial arts exploits.
Holly Holm via knockout.
