Expect an early victory for Jacaré. |
A somewhat surprising UFC Middleweight contest takes place this weekend at UFC 208, as 8 time World Jiu-Jitsu gold medalist and former Strikeforce 185lbs champ Ronaldo 'Jacaré' Souza takes on #13 ranked striker Tim 'The Barbarian' Boetsch. With 10 places between the pair in the official UFC rankings, many have critiqued the matching of the two. Boetsch last competed at UFC 205, where he scored an impressive knockout win over Rafael Natal, while Souza, made light work of compatriot Vitor Belfort at UFC 198 in Brazil to pick up a first round finish. 'Jacaré' was in line to face former division champ Luke Rockhold in Melbourne, Australia, before the American pulled out of the bout due to injury, leaving Souza opponent less. A win for Souza, must definitely see him face the winnner of the expected title bout between Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero, and would see him become the victor in the last 10 of his 11 bouts. Boetsch, a pure blood and guts fighter, has come from the brink to finish Yushin Okami with brutal uppercuts, but in my opinion, if this bout goes anyway near the clinch with Souza's black belt in Judo, or the mat with the Brazilian's obvious grappling credentials, it could be over as soon as it's begun, expect an early night for 'The Barbarian'.
