Felice Herrig picks up impressive unanimous decision victory:
#12 ranked Alexa Grasso and Felice Herrig got us underway in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Houston, with the winner looking similarly to break the top 10. Herrig almost immediately took octagon control and landed some good kicks to the undefeated 23 year-old. Grasso scored a jumping switch kick before slipping, and then attempted a heel hook which she lost. Herrig was definitely out striking the young Grasso in the opening round of this Strawweight bout with the Mexico native landing a good knee just at the buzzer. Round one to Herrig, close round. The second of three scheduled rounds began with a good right hand from Felice which landed cleanly. Grasso was getting tagged by Herrig who was finding huge success with that right hand. The confidence was flowing from Herrig, who was landing some good combinations. Herrig landed a big trip takedown at the buzzer of the second round. Herrig wins that second round. The third and final round began with a side kick from Grasso, who was now pushing the pace. Herrig exploded into a double leg takedown, before Grasso swept expertly, to escape. Grasso was notably more aggressive in this third round, maybe sensing a finish is her only way of remaining undefeated. Herrig was continuing to land inside the pocket with that straight right. Grasso sprawled well to defend the double leg attempt from 'Lil Bulldog'. Grasso was the more aggressive striker toward the end of the third, and stumbled the older Herrig. The judges handed a unanimous decision win to Felice Herrig, with Alexa Grasso looking genuinely surprised.
