'Bigg Rigg' eager to snap 3 fight slide: |
Former Welterweight champion Johny 'Bigg Rigg' Hendricks, will make his Middleweight debut against Cuban Hector Lombard at UFC Fight Night Halifax, in a must win bout for the American. Hendricks, has lost in his last three trips to the octagon, failing to make weight on two occasions, against Kelvin Gastelum, and last at UFC 207, in a decision loss to Neil Magny. Lombard, a hugely experienced judoka and grappler, is himself on a losing run, suffering a devastating elbow KO against now retired Dan 'Hendo' Henderson. Lombard is also a fantastic striker, holding a hugely impressive 19 knockout victories, may surprisingly hold the advantage on the feet against Hendricks, who was once known as the hardest hitter at 170lbs, until his power just seemingly vanished. Those once explosive left hand shots of Hendricks, have finished the likes of Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann, but in recent bouts, the power has been non existent for the four time NCAA Divison I All-American wrestler. The first Bellator Middleweight champ Lombard would be my favourite in this possible standup affair, with notable finishes of Nate Marquardt and Rousimar Palhares, and definitely in the grappling with his 2nd degree black belt in BJJ.
