Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone: What will go down:

The 'Ruthless' one returns tonight!
Finally, after two unsuccessful bookings, former Welterweight boogeyman 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler and former Lightweight title challenger Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone will square off at UFC 214. Lawler was scheduled to make his octagon return at UFC 205 against 'Cowboy', but pulled out of the contest, explaining how he needed time to recover, after two wars with Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit and then a brutal knockout loss to Tyron Woodley. Again cited to meet at UFC 213, this time Cerrone was forced to pull from the bout, due to a nasty staph infection and a groin injury. Both men are coming off crushing losses, Lawler to Woodley, while Cerrone's Welterweight surge was halted by Jorge Masvidal, via second round TKO.

Arguably one of the most feared Welterweight's in MMA history, 'Ruthless' Robbie Lawler made good on his second UFC call which he received in 2013, returning with a vicious KO of Josh Koscheck. Lawler then won a title eliminator against Matt Brown, before picking up a decision win over Johny Hendricks to claim UFC gold. Lawler was pushed to his absolute limits against both Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit, stopping the Canadian in the fifth and final round, and then narrowly outscored 'The Natural Born Killer'. When it came to his third title defence, Lawler was matched up against dangerous powerhouse Tyron Woodley, where he was stopped in the first round in dramatic fashion. The former Miletich Fighting System trainee spilt from American Top Team after his loss to Woodley, and is trying his look with Orlando's Combat Club for his meeting with 'Cowboy'.

An incredible Muay Thai striker with some of the most creative combination's at 170lbs today, 'Cowboy' Cerrone faces arguably the biggest test of his storied career to date in the form of Lawler, rivaled by only Rafael Dos Anjos and Lightweight favourite Nate Diaz. A final appearance at 155lbs from the 'Cowboy' proved unsuccessful as RDA stopped him in the first round of their title clash. Cerrone made the leap to Welterweight, securing a triangle win over namesake 'Cowboy' Oliveira in quick fashion, before stopping Patrick Cote, and executing one of the slickest knockouts in UFC history, as a body-head combo resulted in the buckling of Rick Story. Facing former sparring partner Matt Brown at UFC 206, Cerrone survived a knockdown to score an immaculate switch kick knockout. Jorge Masvidal served as Donald's 5th bout in just over a year and the hectic schedule and toll on the body, seen Cerrone succumb to strikes early in the second.

This fight could snatch the accolade of Fight of The Night as both men are two of the gamest strikers in MMA today, and with deadly weapons such as Lawler's hands and Cerrone's kicks, this one is sure to promise fireworks. Lawler must be patient and pick his shots cleverly to overcome Cerrone, while 'Cowboy' will have to rely on his Muay Thai repertoire to find his success.

Robbie Lawler via knockout.
