Knock down not enough for Werdum as Overeem picks up decision win:

Alistair Overeem eyes Stipe Miocic rematch.
The loss of our UFC 213 main event between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko, has seen a Heavyweight trilogy bout between Brazilian grappler and former champ Fabrício Werdum, and Dutch striking icon Alistair Overeem co headline the card. 'Vai Cavalo' was successful against Travis Browne in his last octagon appearance, while former DREAM, K-1, Strikeforce and PRIDE great Overeem stopped Mark Hunt with a devastating knee strike in his last bout. This one is most certainly a possible title eliminator, as both men look to take on Ohio's Stipe Miocic once again. This is the third meeting of the pair, with Werdum winning during their time in PRIDE, while 'The Reem' got the better of Fabrício in Strikeforce.

Herb Dean got us underway, with Werdum trying that jumping side kick once more, with Overeem avoiding easily. Overeem went high with a kick which was just blocked by the right arm of Werdum, as both men clinched momentarily. Good head movement so far from Overeem, who's hands were incredibly low. A right hand counter landed flush for Overeem as he looked very relaxed. Tentative round so far for both men, as Overeem looked to counter, while Fabrício was keeping his distance. 'The Reem' found a home for that right hand once more as the round came to a close.

Werdum tried that flying side kick again, but to no avail, with Overeem once again moving away. A left kick to the body landed for Overeem, before both men tangled up with Werdum pulling guard. Back on the feet, Overeem scored a decent snapping jab, before a knee crushed the body of Werdum, who once again pulled guard, but Overeem wanted nothing to do with Fabrício's grappling. A left hand scored once again for Overeem, before a switch kick landed to the body with Werdum moving backward. Alistair switched to southpaw, with his movement on point so far. Overeem found a home for yet another left hand, as the buzzer sounded.

The third and final round began with yet another side kick attempt from Werdum, but with no success again. Werdum then caught Overeem with a big knee, sending him to the canvas before Overeem managed to sprawl to his feet. Overeem was still wobbly on his feet before Werdum executed a perfect double leg, as he looked to utilise his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. They go the distance with Overeem winning both round one and two and Werdum obviously claiming round three with that knock down. The judges at octagon side awarded a majority decision to Alistair Overeem.
